I have heard of this rumor before, I want to know that can a foreign student use two different passports from same country with different Date of Birth and Name to get two different State ID cards. I know this is illegal, but is it possible?

Sure, go right ahead. But , no whining when immigration cancels your student visa nd deports you.

yes its possible as long as you have the two passports and the birth certificate you can do it but be careful

I guess I m just not sure where they d get two different passports. I m not aware of any country on this planet that would allow that. It s technically possible to have passports from two different countries, if you have dual citizenship, but still, your name and dob would match on both, so one or the other would have to be faked. That would be much more difficult than just buying a fake state ID off the street.

If you want luxury, I would focus on the North Michigan Avenue area. The top hotels for luxury are: The Four Seasons The Peninsula The Ritz-Carlton The Swissotel The Omni (rooftop sundecks!) The Four Seasons and Peninsula have in-house spas, and Michael Anthony on Belmont Ave is also very nice. Any hotel in this neighborhood will put you in the middle of the nicest shopping/dining places. Don t miss the Crate+Barrel superstore and the 900 North Michigan Shops (Oprah has a condo in this building). Water Tower Place is a high-end multi-level shopping center. There s many restaurants in this part of the city. Bistro 110 (next to the old Water Tower) is as close to authentic French as you ll get. Smith and Wolensky on the river (next to House of Blues) is a New York-style steak house that s one of the best in the city. You can go to the lounge on the 95th floor of the Hancock Bldg. (875 N Michigan) and have champagne and strawberries, and have the same view as the Observatory, without paying the entrance fee. the closest ones would be in Missouri, although i seriously doubt that the quality there is anything worth making a long car ride for. If you have the time and money, take a plane out to a place in colorado or new mexico, and spend at least 3 days there if not a whole week. colorado will certainly have larger mountains, but you probably wouldn t be getting all of your money s worth there, as you would not be able to ski the whole mountain since you ve never gone before. your best bet is probably a mid size resort in new mexico. check out this website and click on new mexico to get a list of all of the resorts and their reviews there: http://www.onthesnow.com/

My husband and I are planning our quot;dream holidayquot; for this coming December. We re from South Africa, Cape Town, and we re going to Orlando, Florida for 2 weeks. I m at the point where I must book accommodation but I have no idea how long to stay in Florida and do all the theme parks such as Sea World, Universal Studio s etc and how long to stay at Disneyworld Resort? Would it be wise to spend 1 week in Florida and one week at Disney world?

Hun, please do a little more research before you book anything. Disney World is in Orlando, Florida. Disneyland is in California. So, you are asking if you should stay 1 week in FL and 1 week in WDW which doesn t make much sense, since WDW is in FL. Now, Universal and Sea World are close to WDW. You can stay on WDW and drive to the other parks, or stay off property and have to drive to the other parks and to the Disney parks. Considering that you are flying in from Africa and won t have your own transportation I would stay on Disney property. That way at least all of your Disney transportation is free and convenient. You should call for reservations soon... December isn t very far away and depending on when you want to go, they may be booked already. Make sure you can get flights for that time too. Disney World IS in Orlando, which is Florida, so don t know exactly what you mean. You can see all the parks in the central florida area in one week. Maybe go over to Daytona Beach some too. (about 1 hours drive away) I am from that area, I lived there for many years. There are alot of things to do. Try and also go to Cape Canaveral, which is about 1 hour drive away. There are so many things to see in that central area. When you get there, there will be brocures of everything to do, then you will see where exactly you want to go. I know that you will have fun though. Even Tampa is about 1 1/2 hours drive away too and there are zoo s and alot of things over there too! Enjoy your trip.

If you re not taking kids along, the theme parks will lose it s appeal (lots of the rides are for kiddies). You can do Disneyworld in 2 days (1 day for MGM and Magic Kingdom then 1 day for Epcot and Animal Kingdom). Then u can do 1 day for Universal (morning at Universal studios and afternoon at Isle of Adventures where all the cool rollercoasters are). Seriously, accommodation is expensive so rather maximise your time by doing 5 days max in Orlando and then hire a car and take a leisurely drive down to Miami for a few days (try and get accommodation in South Beach). On the way there you can stop and check out Kennedy Space Centre, Palm Beach, etc (the drive is like 4 hours so plenty of time for stops). I m from South Africa and spent 2 full days in Orlando where we squeezed in Magic Kingdom, MGM, Universal and Isle of Adventures and then did the drive to Miami - it was awesome. as far as disney world goes i would recommend 3 of the 4 parks. i d skip disneys animal kingdom cuz its basically a glorified zoo with a few rides. and the animals hide in there sheltered area so you can t see them well. and the expedition everest ride really isn t as great as everyone thinks it is. the park is really quite babyish. my 8 year old niece even felt like she was too old for the park. i personally wouldn t waste the time and money to go there. i would recommend the other 3 parks though. magic kingdom hollywood studios epcot. i d spend: 2 days at magic kingdom 1 day at hollywood studios 2 days at epcot. 1 day to relax at the pool and go to downtown disney to shop and eat. so there is 6 days at disney world. then i would spend: 1 day sea world. 1 day universal studios 1 day universal s islands of adventure and the rest of the days do as you please.

I would spend at least 1 week on the Disney property. The resorts are a destination themselves. I would expect to take a full day each at Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom and Disney Studios and 2 days at Epcot ( it really is 2 parks in 1). Depending on what else you would like to see and do you may need a few more days. Make dinner reservations well in advance. For Orlando I would say you need 2 days for Universal Studios and 1 for Sea World. When we planned our trip we used the Unofficial Guide to Disney Worlk and it saved us a lot of time and all of the advice was accurate.

Florida can get very exspenive. It took me 2 days to do everything at Universal Studio s so add 2 days for disney world, one for Sea World. So I would just stay at Disney world you could probably take the shuttles(transportation) to go where you need to. Since your going to in Dec. another place I would suggest is Pigeon Forge, TN they have a theme park there called Dolly Wood and if you celebrate christmas than you might like it. They have christmas light shows and other festivites. Just type in Dolly Wood in the Yahoo search bar and click on the web site. They have all the info on there about it. I hope ya ll have a great time.

For Disney World itself I suggest--including breaks--8 nights and 9 days. That leaves you--barely!! enough time for the other great Orlando attractions. The question is not very specific but as far as hotels in each range at disney. Cheapest would choose POP CENTURY Moderate would choose the Carribbean Beach Resort and Deluxe would recommend the Yacht Club, Beach Club or Boardwalk. ALong with enjoyable places to say these are in better locations for traveling around the parks - POP CENTURY. The best centralized location is in the Boardwalk, Yacht and Beach Club area if you stay there its a boat ride to Hollywood Studios and Epcot and a monorail ride from EPCOT to the Magic Kingdom. Only one you need to get on the bus for is Animal Kingdom. If you don t want to choose one of these hotels due to price the Carribbean Beach is right accross the street so you will be in the general area. In that case you can take a bus in the morning to Hollywood studios from the Carribbean and once at Hollywood studios jump on the boat to the other parks as necessary. Ok if you have never been to Disney you will easily need 2 weeks but if you plan ahead on what you really want to see you can do it in much less such as a week or less. Go online and list all the attractions and shows etc at each park highlight what you prefer to do and have a plan. If you don t have a plan you will end up missing half of the things you wanted to do. There is much to do in Orlando and Sea World, Universal Studios which will also take some time or planning. I would suggest 7 days at disney, 2 days total for universal and Islands of Adventure and 1 day for Sea World. Depending on if you are also adding the weekends in your 2 weeks this will give some time to see some other parts of Orlando or go back and see something you really enjoyed. I would say you can do Universal and Islands of Adventure in 2 days, and 1 for seaworld, and I am not sure if you intend on visiting Aquatica as well, but Disney you will need at least 4 or 5. You can easily spend 1 full day at magic kingdom, 1 full day at mgm, and split the rest between animal kingdom, epcot, and any water parks. I suggest staying at a disney resort, at least while visiting the disney theme parks. Not only are all of the perks worth it but is convenient and easy. Well with Universal there are two theme parks, each is worth one day alone. Then there are a bunch of theme parks over in Disney. Depending on what you like, there is Magic Kingdom, thats a day, Epcot is really cool, and thats also a day there, and if you like rides, MGM has a couple really cool rides and Animal Kingdom and Sea World thats also a day. I would rather go to Sea World though. You can head out to the beach, there is Daytona and Coco Beach approx 1hr travel and Cape Canveral as well, which is an hour. That is on the east coast of FL. Or if you want to stay away from tourists, you can to Tampa, FL and visit Busch Gardens which has it all, animals, water rides and roller coasters and shows. And there are plenty of beachs in this area as well, lik St Pete Beach, Indian Rocks, Clearwater Beach, they are all connected by one road and they are all about a 30min drive along one road which escapes me right now. I would think that one week disney would work... Universal and Islands of Adventure, Magic Kindom, Sea World, Epcot, and then rest of the time you can visit the areas like Coco Beach and Daytona, and if you have time, a trip to St. Augustine, oldest city in America and the oldest school house, too!

How bad would the traffic be for a daily commute between Worcester and Boston? -

I know the drive without traffic is roughly an hour, but how much would traffic add if I wanted to commute from Worcester to Alewife station? If I was eventually trying to get to South Station would it be better to drive right there instead of taking the T from Alewife? I could take the train from Worcester but I d rather drive if possible.

Driving from Worcester to Boston is pretty easy, if you hit the Pike at good traffic times. If you are coming in at the same time as everyone else, you can expect the journey to take you at least an hour and a half. After you get off the Pike at 95 it gets a little bottlenecked. Parking at Alewife would definitely be much easier - its five dollars a day but can get very full very quickly. Not to mention that the traffic on Alewife Brook Parkway at that intersection is horrendous at most any time of day. Routes 16, 3 and 2 all converge right outside Alewife, and everyone and their mother wants to get into Boston. You can expect backups on Rt 2 about a mile away from Alewife, and although it moves slowly, it is rarely ever totally backed up. Take the Red Line all the way into South Station - please don t ever try to drive there. THAT is certainly not convenient for anyone, and ridiculously expensive. The train in Worcester will bring you right into South Station, but it can be somewhat frustrating and crowded. It takes about the same time from door to door - so its up to what you prefer. I personally like being in my own car in my own space for that travel time. But some people really like the ease and predictability of the Commuter Rail.

Driving from Worcester to Boston is an easy drive when you re not on the Mass Pike during rush hour. During rush hour traffic can be slow or get backed up, but other than that driving on the Pike is simple. It s better to drive to the Alewife station because it s closer and easier to get to. The South station is a little further, and you ll get stuck in traffic trying to get there.

Honestly, the Commuter Rail would be much easier, and faster.

I live in the same area and my wife and I were thinking about the same thing (that s how I found your question). My daughter, 16 months, and my nephew, 9 months, went to the beach 2 days ago when I was around 80 degrees. They absolutely loved it! Rolling around in the sand, playing with buckets of water, sitting in dug out holes..etc. We re probably going to go to Hersey one day, drive back towards NY and stop in Sesame for a day and then hit up the Jersey Shore (Norther part) for another day or two (might even go to Ocean City, MD). There are still tons of people at Universal because of their amazing prices. They have a week pass to Universal AND Islands of Adventure for the same price as a 1-day, 1-park Disney ticket. I was recently there and the lines aren t bad during the week (depends what ride, Mummy and Shrek 4-D about 15 mins, Twister and Jimmy Neutron about 5-10). On the weekends it is more crowded, so lines range from about 10-30 for a ride. The Simpsons ride is the newest attraction there so due to it being new the wait is the longest for it. Head there first to avoid the wait! Have a good trip!

believe me there are not less crowds cuz of the economy. when people want to go they will find a way to get the money. its still just as crowded at both parks as it has always been. universal studios has not been as crowded since quot;ioaquot;. at universal studios the lines are about 20-30 minutes at the most and at quot;ioaquot; there more like 20-30 minutes at the least and you prob will be wait ing between 45-60 minutes sometimes more. def don t start thinking that cuz people do not have money that they will stay home. thats not the cae.

the same as always! The economy Is bad when you break it down, the extra cost is really maybe an extra $100 in gas or $200 for airfare for a family. Ticket price increases and food increases in the parks is very minimal. When you figure that you re spending possibly 2-4 thousand dollars for a family vacation, the extra couple of hundred doesn t add up to cancelling the trip.

I again agree with Indy! Being in the vacation rental industry, I know firsthand that the economy keeps folks from Oregon away but they flock from GA, MI, NY, SC, NC and England. To a forigner this is a field day because they can come over and get a item for $100 back there for about $40 here. Wouldnt you come?

DRIVING is way, way cheaper, but you have to decide if losing 2 to 4 days of your trip due to driving time is worth the expense of flying. I couldn t drive that distance without an overnight break in the middle and I personally would not be willing to lose 4 days of my vacation. We will only drive up to 10 hours, which we can do in one day, before giving it up and paying to fly! There are 6 of us, also.

What Beaches in or near NYC for the 4th of July? -

I am planning on spending a nice, (hopefully) quiet 4th. I ve decided to go to a beach, but I m new to the city and not sure where to go. Hopefully, somewhere clean and not terribly crowded. Don t really care which of the boroughs, if you have some suggestions in Jersey, that would work too. Do you think the water would be warm at this time? And please don t suggest Coney, I did a little research and have already crossed that one out. Save that for another time. Thanks.

A family of 4, parents and two 8 year olds, staying for 7 nights? What are some good saving tips if you have any? Where should we go? Is it better to cruise or fly?

I just got back from Waikiki. It was an amazing trip, but yes expensive. I dont even want to know how much i spent!! So here is my advice anyway.... Fly- Tickets are waay cheap these days, we got our flight + hotel for 7 days at Aqua Island Colony for $515 each! Priceline.com Hotel- Our hotel was 2 star, but it didn t matter, the view was amazing, and it was walking distance to shops, restuarants, and the beach. So dont splurge on something fancy and beach front- not worth it! Food- The best food I had was actually in the Mall! It was pretty cheap, but the tastiest! We had a nice meal once a day... around $40 person. What we did in Oahu.. Manoa Waterfall Hike- waterfall not too great... but cool rainforest Scuba Diving (dont need to be certifiied)- one of my fav! Shark Dive Encounter- awesome!!! Shark s Cove/Snorkeling- northshore... can drive yourself there Ghost Tour- more about history than ghosts Diamond Head Hike- must do Paradise Cove Luau- too many couples, but food was great! Pearl Harbour (free tour to the memorial) Hanauma Bay/Snorkel- so cool Koko Head- didnt do this, but they said it was a must do hike before sunrise

We flew United, using Priceline,com. I think we got really lucky though because the next week packages went up to $700+. I would say my fav activities was the Shark Dive ($100) but you have to get to Northshore, which is 1 hr from Waikiki And Snorkeling in Hanauma Bay ($14)!! Scuba is not for kids! Report Abuse

Get a Condo with a kitchen, eat breakfast and your evening meal in your condo. Then splurge on a meal out at lunch time. Meals are much cheaper for lunch than dinner. How much you spend depends on what time of year it is, how much activities you do amp; if you stay in a condo or hotel. We found Oahu to be very commercial, fast moving like a big city. Maui is down the middle, like a med. size town. Lots to do but a homey feel to it. Molokai is like the Wild Wild West show. Dirt roads but if you like rustic that is Molokai. Those are the islands we have gone to. My mom said Kauai is the rainy island, very lush. We fly when we go. We have traveled with our kids when they were around 10, by ourselves now are going there for my daughters wedding of course in Maui. Bringing our 7 yr old grandson. Expecting to have loads of fun.

I d give the children each a certain amount they can spend on anything really, but nothing they need like food, so that way u can keep up with how much you spend easier.

What suburb near Chicago would be a good place to live for a single gal? -

I want to live near the city but not in the city since it could be expensive. I like a place where the community is safe as well but still has a lot of convenient stores (grocery, gasoline, shopping, restaurants). What is your suggestion?

Evanston - it s almost the same as living in chicago, they have so many apartments available.

I tend to feel that the northwest suburbs are the best balance of quality and affordability in the area. I did work in Mount Prospect and loved being there. I live in Glen Ellyn and I like it, primarily for the good schools. Many people that live here used to be single people that lived in the city then had kids and wanted to move before they got to school age. If I were single again I would live in the city myself. It miht be a little bucolic for a single person though. Back to burbs: if you like more urban areas with lost to do Evanston and Oak Park are great, but not very affordable. Elmhurst is a little more affordable but still up there. If you like your car Naperville, St Charles, Geneva are really nice. Naperville is good for young people, lots of restaurants and some night life, the Riverwalk, trendy shopping downtown. And plenty of shopping strips particularly along Ogden Avenue and along Route 59.

Not sure if your from the area, if so you probably know this, if not maybe not but not only should you get out of Chicago but cook country. Chicago is the most expensive but all of cook county has the 11.5% sales tax, plus an assortment of other taxes, vehicle stickers, etc, etc, etc you have to pay. Most any suburb has a Metra train and you can easily be in the city in under 30 minutes. South Suburbs are nice like Tinley, Orland, etc. West burbs also have some nice suburbs like Naperville, DOwners Grove, Oak brook, etc.

Orland park is a nice distance from chicago. It has a very nice indoor mall a water park an amazing park district there are lots of gracery stores and plenty of really good restaurants.

Don t know all of them, but I stayed/lived shortly in the Arlington Heights and Schaumburg areas of metro Chicago. It has all of the things you noted. Nice areas.

Oak Park, LaGrange, Evanston, Evergreen Park, Oak Lawn, Joliet, Tinley Park, Naperville.

Well that is an oxymoron, you will have a better chance of winning the lottery or being struck by lightening than getting a great, affordable Manhattan apartment. However, reasonable apartments can be had as long as you re flexible. Craigslist will be your best bet from afar, particularly if you are looking to get a roommate or sublet. You will likely pay a fee regardless, whether it is a broker s fee, application fee, or some other name. You look until you find an apartment. Depending on what your circumstances are most people initially find roommates in New York until they get settled with a job and an idea of where they might like to live and decide that living here is what you want to do. On average a roommate/share in Manhattan will cost you at least $800 and a studio will easily go for $1600-24000. You would be hard pressed to find a one bedroom for under $2000. This price gets lower if you look in Brooklyn and Queens which is what a lot of people do. There are many scams out there of companies that promise to send you quot;listingsquot; for a fee but never get anyone any apartments so beware of great offers or promises. That being said, New York offers some quirky real estate. Sometimes you will find unique living arrangements from people who travel a lot that may rent you the living room of an apartment and keep the bedroom for themselves but they only use the aprtment 1 week a month or something to that effect. Get creative. I lived in an apartment with a few roommates quite cheaply because it was a railroad flat so you had to walk through one room to get to another (no privacy). Another had the shower in the kitchen. These apartments are becoming more and more rare as the demand for real estate provides an incentive for landlords to improve their units and charge very high prices. Unless you are a Rockefeller you should be trying to tell everyone you know in New York that you are trying to find an apartment here as word of mouth offers the greatest deals in apartments here. If your university has an alumni chapter here check them out for tips, likewise if your current job has a branch or office here. It takes a bit of patience, fortitude and luck. You should also be prepared to pay first, last, and security deposit plus a brokers fee so you are looking at needing the equivalent of four months up front right off the bat. Plus unless you have a great job where you are making major dough you will probably need a guarantor to cosign a lease if you get your own apartment, typically you need to prove and annual income of 40 times one month s rent, so if it is 2000 a month you need an income of $80,000 a year to secure it. My advice would be to check Craigslist for a roommate. Good luck!

You really wont find too much under that unless you go to a place with a shared bathroom and that will still run 1000 in manhattan. $2500 is definitely doable. What size? This will get you a decent one bedroom in the West Village, Chelsea, or Soho area. I pay 2300 for a 500 square foot 2 bedroom in Chelsea, and it is pretty nice, but a 4th floor walkup, and my room is 6 x9 . My roommate and I paid a $3,000 to fee. Try Craigslist. Stay away from uptown, too boring. Also, in NY, brokers generally charge 15% of the annual rent. Try to use no broker, or no fee.

I just went down in February. We had fun walking down River Street, visiting the little shops. Then we walked around Savannah, visiting all the little squares and little shops on the way, there are plenty of them and you can spend all day walking all the different streets. We also took a ghost tour (which took us to Moon River Brewing and a few other haunted pubs) it cost about $10, our guide was pretty funny and told us some great stories. We also drove over to Tybee Island, checked out the lighthouse and walked around. We ate at The Pirate House, which sounds kind of cheesy but was actually a decent restaurant food wise. We also ate dinner amp; had drinks at Moon River Brewing. We passed on Paula Deen s restaurant because it seemed all the tourists immediately flock there. I do suggest for breakfast checking out, quot;The Express Cafequot; that is on Barnard Street, good food but it gets busy pretty quickly on a Saturday.

Maybe it s crazy, but I d like to know if anyone has experience or information on kayaking the Columbia River from the Portland area out to the ocean. Sounds like an excellent upper body workout to me!

Silky, it is about 100 miles to Astoria. In weather you may wish to do this would be preferable the summer, once you get down stream to St. Helens, Oregon, you will start dealing with tidal effects, where the river actually starts flowing upstream. This will help when the tide starts falling. I doubt that you could make this trip in anything under 20 hours because of several factors besides tides. Once you get into the mouth of the Columbia, you will also experience upon occasion some rather nasty swells, and you may wish to take side trips into the Oregon side in the Prairie Channel. What ever your desires, it is a lovely piece of water to kayak or sail on. Enjoy. Tom

My kids and I stay at the Hilton @ Sqauw peak It s a nice 4 star resort with a water park for the kids and spa for the adults with a reasonable rate. Whenever I make that drive, I usually stay in Albuquerque or Phoenix. Albuquerque is a little better because you re closer to yur destination at that point!!! But, I generally just keep driving until I can t drive anymore...and wherever I am, that s where I stay.

Really, for the sake of safety, unless you are taking speed, this is a two night trip. Just look up the Motel 6 map on their web site.

Your best bet is probably somewhere near Albequerque, New Mexico. It is a little more than halfway, so day two will be shorter.

How many States do Americans visit within their own country on average? -

America is a great country in my opinion. I m British and have been to 9 States over the years, yet some Americans tell me they have never ventured out of their own State. I would be interested to know if anyone on here from the USA has seen as many States as me in their own country.

Off the top of my head I know I ve been to at least 9. There was a point in my life where I had seem nor of Europe than my own country. I have since corrected that but it was quite the eye-opened when I flew to LA (from home in NYC) and realized I could fly to London in about the same time. As others have pointed out, the US is vast and some states are huge. For Londoner to holiday in say the Scottish Highlands would be similar to a San Diegan heading up to the Shasta region of California. Except the Californian would have a longer trip.

Many Americans do travel to other states, but it is usually to busy metropolitan cities such as L.A., NYC, Las Vegas, Miami, etc. America is a pretty big country covering a lot of land and there are many states that do not have such a dense population. Therefore, most Americans usually skip states that do not attract major tourism, such as the Midwest states where there are mainly farms and open land. I have personally been to 8 states, not including the one I live in. I would love to go visit every single state, but it s like asking a Brit, quot;would you rather go to Liverpool or Spain?quot; Obviously the latter choice would be more enticing.

Yep, been to many of them. But you also have to remember, poor people often cannot travel, and some states are very large, so even getting to the edge of your state can be a big trip. Likewise the less educated often do very little traveling even if they have the money for it. Travel in the US is often a luxury dependent on having a job that provides time and money sufficient to take vacations (or requires travel itself), and for many people, this is not the situation. I would think similar situations exist all over the world, but it may just be pronounced in the US or Northern Europe because of the perceptions often attached to these areas.

I have been to more than 25 states + Washington, DC for at least overnight. Also visited more than 40 other countries for at least overnight. My teenage son has been to 7 states + Washington, DC for at least overnight and visited 10 other countries for at least overnight. (the quot;overnightquot; bit is because I am not counting places we visited for only a day or merely transited)

I have lived in almost as many, seven. However, as far as travel is concerned, I have traveled to all but 6. I would find it odd if a person told me they had not ventured outside their own state. I can t say I have met many of those myself.

The Eden Resort is nice (they recently remodeled) and near routes 30 and 283, which will take you to most places you ll want to go. They have indoor and outdoor pools, and a couple of different restaurants. There are lots of chain and independent hotels around the Strasburg/ Paradise/ Intercourse/ Ronks areas. I ve never stayed at any of them, so I can t say for sure what their quality is. Whatever you do, do not stay at the Days Inn on Keller Avenue. It smells, some of the employees are rude, and there have been numerous shootings and robberies there.

How many miles or minutes does it take you to get to work, and do you find it reasonable?

When I first moved to the U.S., my commute was 160 miles per day. Then just recently, my work was only 1.7 miles (both ways). Now I m laid off, so I commute to my back yard on sunny days.

My job is roughly one mile from where I work. I live in a really small town and while there are many dirt roads and some paved ones, the main road is US HWY 68, that goes from Kingman Az to Laughlin, NV right dead smack through the center of our town. I live and work on that road. Most days I walk to work and it takes about a half an hour because you have to walk in the desert along the side of the highway. When I get a ride, it takes less than 5 minutes to get here. When I was bringing my baby to work with me, it took like 45 minutes to walk and that kind of sucked because pushing a stroller through the dirt is not an easy task. lol

I m at the other end of the spectrum. I have about a seven step commute to my office! I work from home. :)

What part of the strip in the Flamingo located in? What attractions are around it?

The Flamingo has a pretty good spot on the Strip. It is right near most popular things and it has a terrific pool and it has a wildlife habitat area, too. The Flamingo has a pretty good Buffet and the Sunday Brunch is a very good deal. Across the Strip and just a bit North is The Mirage where the Volcano erupts every night, which is connected to Treasure Island by a free tram. Treasure Island is where the Pirate Battle show occurs every evening as well. Across the Strip and just a bit South is the Bellagio where the dancing Fountains put on a show in the evening. Right next door to the Flamingo is the Imperial Palace that has a large antique and rare automobile exhibit. Almost directly across the Strip is Caesar s Palace which has lots of shopping and attractions. So there is plenty to do and see right within walking distance of the Flamingo. Now the down side. This is one of the first hotels in Vegas and has gone through many expansions over the decades. As a result there are various towers and different rooms styles. The newest rooms are pretty much on par with any other moderate ranged hotel in Vegas the older rooms are pretty old. Everything is clean, however. I has an unusually small casino and due to its location, it gets really crowded. I do not like to play there for that reason. They have an annex casino called O Shea s which is newer but it is even louder and more crowded. I have never been impressed with the class of gamblers it attracts. I don t really know why that is but it usually gets a very loud, crass low rent sort of crowd in the Casino. But not the hotel or pool area. They are fine. When I stay there I gamble across at other casino s like Bally s to the South. Bally s tends to get a large Asian crowd who tend to be quieter and more reserved. They are much less annoying than the players at the Flamingo. *

About the middle of the 4 miles. At one end Mandalay Bay, Luxor, Excalibur, NYNY, Monte Carlo, Tropicana and MGM. Then Bellagio, Paris, Planet Hollywood, Ballys, Bills, Flamingo and Caesars Palace. Then Wynn, Encore, Venetian, Palazzo, Treasure Island, and Mirage. At the far end Sahara near Riveria and Circus Circus, plus walk to Stratosphere

We are taking a 3 generational quot;girlquot; trip to Chicago April 4-7. My mom (68), my 3 daughters (26, 21 and 8 - nope, not a typo! - daughter #3 was a BIG delightful surprise!!), and I (47) have never been to Chicago. We are looking for some suggestions as to what are the best things for first time visitors to see and do in Chicago. Also, any hints and tips for getting around in quot;the big cityquot; - we are from quot;small-townquot; Michigan. Thanks for any family friendly ideas you have.

If you re into museums, check out the city pass link below. For the price of about 2 museums, city pass gets you into Art Institute, Field Museum, Museum of Science amp; Industry, the aquarium, planetarium, and Hancock Observatory (very very tall building). The second link below lets you search to find places to eat, things to do, events that are going on during the dates of your travel, etc. The third link is for public transit in Chicago. Some areas are safer than others (south side of Chicago can be sort of iffy, but most of the downtown areas and a good portion of the north side are pretty safe). The System Map link is a great map of streets, and where the trains/buses run along them. Cabs are very plentiful anywhere downtown, you can hail them anywhere. If you need a cab further out in the city and don t see them cruising around, might be a good idea to call for one. I think 312-TAXICAB usually works pretty well. Hope you have a great trip! I live in Los Angeles and I am going on vacation there next June 28 through July 1st. Do they sell real fireworks like bottle rockets, firecrackers, roman candles, artillery shells etc? If not where else should I check? Do the police do car searches at the border of California and Nevada during that time? Thank you, any answers would be greatly appreciated.

There will be stands all around the neighborhoods here in Vegas selling them. They begin to open right around the end of June. No searches.

Safe and sane fireworks are sold only the week before July 4th, no soon. No roman candles, rockets, etc. They illegal in Clark County where Las Vegas is located. If you want them you have to drive to Pahrump or toward Reno and stop at the Indian Reservation. And, yes sometimes NHP watches and waits

Moapa has the best selection. It s about 35-40 mins out of Vegas, but worth the trip. It s a giant store full of everything you can imagine much better than the stands. The stands here are just like the ones in LA. Just hop on 15 North and you can t miss it. You should be ok with the cops. You will probably only be searched i you get pulled over.

I have always been partial to Disney World. It has something for every age group to enjoy.

What little I have seen of Utah is gorgeous. We drove to Phoenix, AZ from Las Vegas via the southern end of Utah. I am not sure how far that is for you. My other suggestion would be to decide which direction you want to go and stop at what you want to see along the way. After a couple of days, take a different route back. Sometimes these trips are more fun. Enjoy!!!!

If the Southern part of Montana isn t too far for you, I would suggest the Beartooth River Ranch, 9 miles south of Belfry, MT. It s only about 3 miles from Wyoming and about 45 minutes from Cody, WY. The owners and manager are wonderful people and there are always kids around the ranch house. The Beartooth Mountains are on one side of the ranch and the Clark s Fork of the Yellowstone River is on the other side. They offer guided horseback rides, fishing, campfires down at the river, day trips into Cody, beautifully decorated rooms and suites, and the best homecooked meals you can imagine. There is a TV viewing room, picnic tables outside, a laundry room that is close to all the rooms, and their prices are very reasonable. My sister and I spent two days and nights there in May that we will never forget. We were made to feel so at home and so welcomed. They catered to our every need and wish. The decor is rustic and western. The atomosphere is amazing. The drive from the ranch to Cody is absolutely gorgeous! Imagine being on a horse, in Montana, with the Beartooth Mountains behind you and the Yellowstone River in front. It was a dream come true type of vacation for us and we re going back as soon as we can and we ll stay longer. Can t wait to get back. We live in Amarillo, TX and the drive there didn t seem long at all because of all the beautiful scenery/landscapes we saw on the trip there. It was heaven!!

The best place to go is the Caribbean, specifically Antigua. It has 365 beaches and so many places to go. Your family would love it there. The warm sunny beached, tropical fruits, touring the island. It would be great. YOu can get a ticket for around 400-500 dollars or even less depending on when you buy it. This would be the dream vacation. Living on the beach, watching the sunset by the sea shore, A dream come through. You can go to the JOlly Beach/ Culb Antigua Resort and get royal treatment.

Disneyworld in Orlando, FL is great- I went last February with my husband, and kids ages 9 and 16 and we had a great time. If you stay at one of their resorts there are free buses between all of the parks and if you get park-hopper passes you can go to any park any time! The Animal Kingdom lodge is terrific and I would highly recommend staying there!

I d check www.atlanta.net Lennox Square Mall is nice in Buckhead, you might see a celebrity. Buckhead is upscale. Atlanta botanical gardens is nice, The World of Coca Cola was new and interesting. The Georgia Aquarium in very nice. There s six flags but it may be closed for winter.

Yes, Rock County in MN. I know of 3 gas stations in the county that do. McDonalds also charges extra when I used a debit/credit card too. They are charged 1-3% for using the cc machine, so they charge us.

Unfortunately, most gas stations these days will charge extra for debit/credit cards. I ve noticed it all over California. And technically, they re not charging quot;morequot; for credit card usage; they get around it by saying they give a quot;discountquot; for people paying cash.

Why not just pay cash and then you don t have any extra,or even the cost of a stamp to mail your credit card payment. Then everyone is happy! Exept the bailed out credit card industry and the post office.

I asked this question earlier and got no real response. I m not going out their to become some actor, me and my friends are between the ages of 21-23 and are in school. We were wondering where the best apartments/duplexes are. We are fully aware how expensive the cost of living is and don t expect to arrive their with big eyes but we we re wondering if anyone out their can just give us a couple places that are 1,500-2000. Thanks and I appreciate it.

Since commuting is a nightmare in Los Angeles, where you stay initially is not all that relevant. Just find some place temporarily until you find a job, and become familiar with some of the areas. Once you find work, and can better estimate what you can budget for housing look around the area you are working in for a more permanent residence. In most areas of Los Angeles County you can usually find some apartments in the price range you mentioned until you get established.

Where are you going to school? It would help to narrow things down.

I loved Little Tokyo, and I suppose you could find a few places there under $2000. You don t have to live inside the city proper, you know. You ll find a high quality inexpensive place in South Bay. Good luck, you ll need it!

Sherman Oaks and Studio City have nice places for fair prices. And its more relaxed. Hollywood is fun to live and you could find a place for that amount but it may be older Downtown LA you could get a cool Loft overlooking the city but its dangerous at night

It s usually rainy and a bit chilly, but like people have already said, it can be very unpredictable. When you re here, it could be mild and nice, but the weather is always changing pretty drastically here. Rainy one day, sunny the next!

November fluctuates between partially sunny and rain. It depends on the storm fronts coming down from Alaska or from the Pacific coast line. My boyfriend is going to be stationed at Ft. Richardson and we are moving there in a few months. I have lived in Missouri my whole life so I am a bit nervous but I would like to prepare the best I can. Should I stock up on any pricey items?What kind of winter gear should I get?

Anchorage gets cold and dark in the winter. That will be the biggest adjustment. Goods at the PX are a lot cheaper than what everyone off post pays, so the cost of living won t be too much higher than in Missouri. Layers are essential here, wool is the best. I like a good down jacket to keep me warm. A lot of people who move up here have the most trouble with the darkness. Buying a SAD light is a good way to maintain sanity.

some things are a little more expensive in AK. but it wont break the bank. Anchorage gets pretty cold and can get a lot of snow. better buy some long johns! oh, and this summer take the 5 hour drive south to the town of Homer, you ll love it!!!! its easy to find, just get on HWY 1 south, thats the only road in =)

I spent 30 days in the States in June on the Visa Waiver Program (I m British). Now I am planning to go back next month (August) and spend 90 days there. Does the fact that there is only 6 weeks between visits hinder me? I have the receipt from US-VISIT to say I left the Country and also have a printed return ticket for November. I know you have to prove ties to your home country but I am a temp so my work is inconsistant. Hence I can take 90 days off! I also live with my parents so I don t have deeds or anything. I m visiting my Girlfriend should I keep quiet about this? I am entering through Detroit Wayne County. Any answers will be appreciated.

Im talking about hotels outside of England, I was just curious as to what they can actually do if anything?

Of course, what instantly comes to mind is a bunch of people jumping up and down, waving their arms in the air, yelling obscenities in your general direction as you run out onto the street. Then they come to their senses and quiet down and chase you down the street until they catch you. They then twist your arm and you yell quot;Uncle!quot; and pay them.

If you are a stranger in strange lands, it is normal (in fact dé rigeur) for your passport and ID details to be taken in full. In Europe, especially, your details get updated with the local police on a regular basis. In many countries, a referee is required (especially if travelling on business). I had one contractor run out on his hotel in Germany and they were on to me PDQ, as his referee. Silly boy! They got their money, which I deducted from his wages, before giving him the boot.

They may either mail you a bill (since you give them your address when you check in) or just leave it alone. A few years ago, a friend of mine ran out on a hotel bill that was in my name (I almost killed him for that), but they didn t do anything about it.

If they don t have your credit card info, I don t think they can do anything. They might call the police. If you used your real name you could get tracked down and charged with theft or fraud.

In the US, you have to give them a valid credit card before they give you a key. If you run out, they charge your card.

i am planning to relocate in sacramento, ca.. Which area is best to work as a nurse and buy a house and raise my 2 kids?

You shouldnt have a problem finding a nursing job, from what I understand there is a shortage. As far as living in the area stay out of the south area and Elk Grove which is just south of south Sacramento and the crime is bleeding into the area. Also Natomas is getting a bit ghetto these days. I like Citrus Heights quite a bit, Carmichael is pretty good, Roseville and into Rocklin if you can afford it. Just be aware traffic is getting worse these days. Research the schools around the areas also.

While there are hospitals in Midtown Sacramento, and living in Midtown is fun for young adults, it is not a good environment to raise children in - lots of homelessness, drinking, and rude people. I would suggest Rocklin, Roseville, Loomis, or Auburn. Rocklin and Roseville are very consumer-friendly and upscale towns with two major hospitals nearby. Loomis and Auburn are more rural, but both near hospitals - they are also less hot than Rocklin and Roseville in the summer.

roseville!!!or rocklin. definitely. it is a nice neighborhood for families. and it is very safe. the area is newer than a lot of other cities in sac.

Sacramento is a very nice town. Cute little neighborhoods, good restaurants, etc. But it s just too HOT in the Summer for my tastes. I think if I lived near there I would look to the east. Not far outside Sacramento the road starts climbing into the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mtns., California s famous Gold Country . Auburn is only about 35 miles away. Placerville is maybe 45 or 50 miles. Those towns are in the mountains, much cooler, not to mention prettier. Lots of history and local color .

elk grove is a growing communtiy. now they have new shopping centers, and methodist hospital may have a job for you. commute is not that bad either is you wnat to live in elk grove and work in downtown. all you need to do is carpool with your kids, and have them go to school in downtown. thats what i have been doing for quite a while now. education is excellent, and sutter middle school is the best school in town. california distinguished school. housing in downtown is quite expensive. if anything go for west sac, natomas, or elk grove. plenty of homes. there are also many hospitals in downtown. so, my suggestion: MOVE HERE!!! its great! theres a river for excellent weekend getaways right in downtown, housing can be around 300,000 for brand new homes, your kids will be safe day and night at school and home and have a great education, and im sure there are plenty of job oppurtunites. currently my brother is working as an intern for a doctor so its pretty easy to get a job. you should definitely consider moving here, and i wish you the best of luck. i look forward to having you in my home town!!!!!!!

Go to Auburn or Grass Valley its a great place to raise a family. My uncle lives there and its really fun to go up to is place and you can always go to the river and he has some acreage so its really fun. Auburn is right next to the freeway so you can get right on and head to Sacramento it only will take around 30-45mins to get there and back

Midtown is a great place to live. Lots of trees, bars, restaurants and parks. Just don t move to close to the freeway. Many people work for the state. CalPers is rumored to be a great department to work for. They have a nice new building with a good cafeteria.

Do you remember the episode of the Brady Bunch when they vacationed in Hawaii? One of the Brady boys found a tiki doll, decided to keep it and from then on the family had nothing but horrible news and bad luck until the tiki was returned to where it came from. I grew up in Hawaii with the belief that you don t do anything to disrespect the land or the Hawaiian Gods. Yes, you can bring it back coral and sand but it ll be at your own risk. I don t think it s illegal or anything like that but there are Hawaiian superstitions tied to the islands regarding taking things from them. Some people believe that it s OK and safe to take something from the land as long as you leave something back as an offering to the gods.

It s not illegal (if you are talking about a handful of sand), but if you are even a little superstitious, I would not recommend doing that. Removing large amounts of sand is against the law.

Sure you can bring it back but be for warned. There are a lot of superstitions about taking coral back to the main land and it bringing bad luck. I have heard of people bringing it back to Hawaii after having a lot of bad luck.

I love the fall. I m planning my next vacation for Christmas 08. I love all the christmas decorations and snow on main street.

I went September 10 - 17 and the longest line I waited in was 15 minutes and that was Space Mountain. I got right in for shows (and got GOOD seats). I waited in short lines for characters and the weather was gorgeous.

October...Cooll enough to walk around without feeling completely exhausted and over heated and warm enough so you can stay late.

We have been both in the fall and in the spring. I have never gone during the summer on winter. We also live on the Gulf Coast and I refuse to plan a vacation during the hurricane season. We love going in the spring, the weather is warm enough to wear shorts and comfortable clothes, the rain is usually short lived and the day not ruined. The fall is great because of what Disney offers the Not So Scary Halloween Party and the Very Merry Christmas make the park even more special.

Mid September to early November. And its not blisteringly hot and the lines are short. The lines are really short on days when there is a hurricane blowing thru. Odds of a hurricane spoiling your day is very slim in late October early November.

We went this past May and the weather was great even cool at night and the crowds were not that bad. It was after spring break but before summer hit so most kids were in school. In every park excep MKs Fantasyland were quite empty per a cast member and Fantasyland wasn t that bad expecially if you use fastpass. October I hear is nice and cool and we plan on returning next October during the fall break.

Then you are looking to come during the months of October or November. Especially November the hurricane season is over by then. The temperatures start to get cooler and the tourist numbers are down then.

Definitely October..unfortunately my college doesn t get a fall break so I haven t been in October since high school, but the crowds aren t too bad even on Columbus Day weekend, and the weather is gorgeous. It s also nice weather in March but tends to be a little bit more crowded with Spring Break. I went this past January and it was extremely crowded (Marathon weekend) and hot/humid, so I would definitely say October is the best time to go.

Hi, I ve been there this year in late February/early March. The weather was perfect, around 27°C (colder in the morning and evening), we could even go to Blizzard Beach. Moreover, absolutely nobody in any park (Disney, Universal, Seaworld) ! No queue at all at rides like Space Mountain, Hulk, Dueling Dragons, Test Track, Return of the Mummy, Kraken, etc... I don t know if we were just lucky, but we plan to go back at the same period.

I would recommend taking a Metrolink train from Oceanside to LA union station and then a Flyaway bus directly to LAX. Total cost wold be about $11 for the train portion and another $4 for the bus to LAX. The service is comfortable and reliable with a travel time of about 2 hours to LA plus 45 minutes to LAX. I lived in Riverside for a long time, and I ve tried driving myself, a limo, and a shuttle service. The shuttle probably isn t cheap given gas prices, however, it s probably the easiest way you ll have. I-5 just isn t worth the fight at that time of day ir you want to enjoy the trip. Let s see, allowing 2.5 hours before flight time, you should plan on arriving around 9:15. Taking the train is pretty risky, since I think the last train leaves around 4:30. You can check Amtrak.com and metrolinktrains.com. It s probably safest to just drive it, and park in remote lot C. Shuttle service is going to cost a lot, and public transporation may not be available at that time.

Drive yourself. I ve been to LAX and the traffic getting there is horrendous! It s better to rely on yourself cuz then the power is in your hands rather than waiting for bus or shuttle. They sometimes run late or dont show up at all.

There are lots of limo companies out there and it is a Tuesday. That should help you get there in time, with much less stress. The fees shouldnt be bad on a Tuesday night either. Easiest way? Helicopter!!! Have a safe trip!

I would see if the shuttles (Super Shuttle or Airport Boulevard Company) would take you there, they only cost $25. If they won t take you to Red Rocks, take the shuttle to a hotel as far west as they will go (likely Golden or Lakewood) and then take a cab from there.

We will be doing the Arch and going to Busch Stadium. We have been to Union Station, and are thinking about the zoo/science center in Forest Park. We are looking for anything farther out from downtown that may be fun. We have a 5 year old son with us, and we will be in the area this weekend (5/25-5/27), and looking for some new things to do, from shopping to entertainment, or anything else we may find fun.

Not allot of the metro will take you to anything but things downtown your best bet might be to rent a car for a day, they are very reasonable down by the airport on car rentals, There is Grants Farms which is a must for a child of your sons age(it like a big petting zoo) , Magic house is cool, the transportation museum is very cool they even have a mini train that kids get to ride. Try the City museum that is more kid friendly than the history or art museum.

I d recommend The City Museum. It s downtown and should not be missed. You won t find anything like it anywhere. Check out their website. It should be nice weather this weekend, so plan on spending time in both the indoor and outdoor areas. Make sure you wear sneakers or sturdy sandals - no flip flops - you ll regret it otherwise.

The Museum of Transport in St. Louis County might be fun for your son. You would need a rental car to get there.

In the suburbs. Preferably to the north, such as Richardson or Plano. Dallas ISD is entirely too big and has too many schools and way too much politics. Other school districts have their own politics, too. But my advice would be for you to stay involved in their school life as a school volunteer. You ll retain more quot;controlquot; that way. Whatever you do, stay out of the south part of Dallas.

In your income, Coppell is going to offer what you were used to from Kansas City, Mo. Coppell is the most self-contained and consistent of the areas mentioned thus far. Places like Richardson can be rather odd. Plano is 45 minutes away from a liquor store. Depends on your job commute. The traffic is very bad in 3/4 of DFW Metroplex. Dallas cheated everyone with their public transportation. If you want lilly-white, no apartment dwellers and exclusive schools, check out Keller -- mostly American Airline workers.

Are you talking about coins or currency? Because it is a LOT harder to move comfortably with pockets full of change than with an equivalent amount of paper money.

Find the job first. Orlando has one of the highest unemployment rates right now. When you have found one, look for the apartment. There are ones all over the area. However, it is an expensive place to live. One bedroom apartments start at about 650 per month. Then think of changing car registration, drivers license, voter registration. Deposits on the apartment and the different utilities (electricity, phone, cable...). Moving costs for furniture or cost of furniture when you arrive. It can cost you several thousand (maybe as high as 5000 - 6000) to make the move.

I am trying to plan a summer vacation that would include stops at Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone National Park, and Glacier National Park. How many days should I plan on being in each area so as to have a good overview, sut still being able to fit everything into the trip.

How much time you want to spend at each location really depends on what sort of things you are interested in seeing and doing. There is really not that much to do at Mount Rushmore... you stand at the viewing area and look up at the cliff with the faces carved on it. There is also a small museum and gift shop. It is an impressive sight and worth visiting if you are in the area, but it is hard to imagine spending more than a few hours there. The surrounding area has a variety of tourist attractions including the old west boomtown of Deadwood (mostly gambling casinos now), Sturgis (popular with motorcyclists), several developed caves, and a number of other - often cheesy - tourist attractions. These other attractions can be fun if you are in the area, but they are not exactly world class attractions. Both Yellowstone and Glacier are huge parks. Just going to the main overlooks, visitor centers and attractions (without doing any serious hiking or camping) could easily take several days at each park. There is a big 60 mile loop through the center of Yellowstone that runs past most of the main lake and thermal areas. You could probably do the loop with stops at the main locations in two days, but three or four would be better. At Glacier, you could easily spend a day exploring the Many Glacier area and another around Two Medicine Lake and East Glacier. From there you could take a day going over the classic Going to the Sun Road to the west side of the park with stops at Saint Mary Lake, Logan Pass and other attractions along the way. You could then easily spend another day on the west side of the park at Apgar and Lake McDonald. The Waterton Lake area on the border with Canada and the US is also very nice with another big classic lodge and nice boat tour (this would add at least an extra day to the time on the east side of the park). Keep in mind too that all of these parks are pretty far away from each other. You would need a full day of long driving to get between any two of them.

We ve been to Vegas before and we liked their location (central strip), but we ve never stayed at either. We really like to relax, eat, hang out by the pool and gamble a little. For example, some guests complain about fraudulent mini-fridge charges on their bills. Apparently, the hotel automatically charges you if you pick up a bag of chips, even if you set it right back. They are both really nice. This Paris is nice as well. We like to stay at Planet Hollywood when we go. The atmosphere is great! It too has a great location and OUTSTANDING service.

I love the Venetian. I ve stayed there several times and have always received fantastic service. The Venetian has the added advantage that it is, in general, much less expensive than other comparable hotels on the Strip. I highly recommend Emeril s Delmonico restaurant as well as the restaurant in the Venezia tower (Bouchon?). The Canyon Ranch Spa Club is great too.

You can tune your TV into the music that the fountains are playing, and watch them from your window. It s an amazing view, with the Paris Eiffel Tower in the background. My husband and I pulled our chairs up to the window at night, tuned in the music, opened a bottle of wine, and probably spent 2 hours watching the fountains....so romantic!!! The pool at the B is also great too.....I had no problems with the staff as other people reported. The Venetian rooms are a little bigger, with a quot;suitequot; type atmosphere (living room, etc....)...we had zero view from our hotel room. Yes the restaraunts are a little more reasonable, but the good news is, the V and the B are close enough together to walk. So we would stay at one, and hang out another. Good luck! This is a tough question... I would find it hard to turn down a stay at the Bellagio with a room over looking the fountains. Also, IMO, the Bellagio has a better location on the strip to move from casino to casino. However, The Venetian has some great suits and has the Shopping Arcade and some great places to eat and also TAO is a fantastic club if thats your thing. If you like to relax by the Pool and eat. May I also throw Ceasers into the Mix. The pool grounds are out of this world and I also think they have an excellent selection of places to eat.. It really is a 50/50 call. Like one of the other contributors suggest, why not see where you can get the best deal and let that be your decision maker. More $$$ s for the tables that way. Whatever you decide have a great time!

Venetian, more a romantic resort-like feel. It s a larger property with more dining and shopping choices, there s also a Canyon Ranch Spa inside. You chose 2 of Vegas best properties and won t go wrong with either choice. Have a great time!

if the Venetian is next door to Paris as quot;Mr. Almost Famousquot; claims, there is something wrong with the known universe. Venetian rooms are better in my opinion. With clear traffic, it s approx. 60 minutes. Expect heavy traffic near Cordelia and through Fairfield. The next major bottleneck may be the Yolo Causeway. Fortunately, there are move cars heading into the Bay Area from Sacramento than the other way around. My best guess would make it about a 1 1/2 to 2 hour drive.

I have a long drive at the end of the month, driving from Brownsville Texas to Los Angeles, California. I have driven from Houston to Los Angeles before and gone through the old Route 66 trails and have been to the Blue Whale of Catoosa, Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Bandera Ice Caves in NM, Crater in AZ, Center of the Universe in Felicity. Any other sites or restaurants to stop at?

The last time I drove from Houston to the central coast of California, in the eighties, I deviated all the way to the Grand Canyon. But assuming you will eventually pick up Highway 90 West on your trek north from Brownsville, you should consider taking US 285 north and going up through Ft. Stockton to Carlsbad, NM. Take at least a day and tour Carlsbad Caverns. After that, If you ve never seen the Grand Canyon, continue north on 285 and after passing through Roswell (you might want to stop and visit aliens) pick up US 40 west at Albuquerque. (I believe 40 and the old 66 are the same in that area.) That will take you through Flagstaff, which is only quot;spitting distancequot; from the canyon. Plus it s nice and cool there this time of year. You can continue on 40 to California and pick up US 15 at Barstow or you can deviate slightly and visit Las Vegas (I did that coming back). US 15 will take you to I-10 and straight to the Los Angeles area.

You can take the ferry as long as you never get off the boat between Bellingham and Haines. That s the only way to do it legally unless you a letter of approval from the Canadian government.

Do not believe what AKPilot wrote. He made a simple mistake. The only way out of Haines is by ferry or driving into Canada to Anchorage or south to Seattle. You would be stuck in Hanes. About once a month, usually in the summer - it is possible to catch a ferry that will take you to Juneau, and, a second ferry will go from Juneau to Cordova then Seward. From Seward you can drive to Anchorage. But, these connections only happen infrequent - but - it does happen. Check out the ferry schedule - the 2009 schedule is now online this week. It really depends what part of Washington that you want to see. The best time to see the West side is probably the summer. You miss the rain. The East side is from Spring through late Fall. There are over 300 days a year of sun on the East side. Really though Washington is beautiful anytime and anywhere. Winter in the Cascades is magic. Even the fog and mist are pretty in the lush Olympic Peninsula rain forest. As you can tell I really love Washington. I came here 6 years ago for a visit and immediately moved my family here. We have never looked back and spend our free time traveling around the state.

Having lived in Washington for the past year or so I have to say that my favorite time here is fall. It is a bit nippy but it is also just gorgeous there are all sorts of things that go on all year round though depending on what your tastes are. If you like the beach go in the summer. If you like skiing go in the winter. I am assuming that you mean the Seattle area vice the Spokane western Washington area (it really does get cold quick over there). I ve lived in Seattle my whole life and I have to agree that my favorite season is fall. It s a little bit chilly, but the scenes, foliage is beautiful. It also is a nice time to walk around downtown and see the holiday decorations/lights etc.

I would say my favorite time of year is early fall mostly because it s so beautiful. Though it rains a bit, you really just have to expect that all year round. But with the leaves changing color and all the green it s just really wonderful.

I think the best season would be Summer or spring. Fall is too cold and winter is just freezing. Spring is a little bit better. I mean not too cold and not to hot. Summer is good because it s easier to go places. If you want to find out better go on Google.

Most of the rivers on Kauai are cleaner than anything you ll find on the mainland. On Kauai there are kayak tours that take you up the Wailua river then on a hike to a waterfall to swim. There s Silverfalls ranch in Princeville where you can take a Horse riding tour to a waterfall and swim there. Way on the north shore at Ke e beach there s a trail that goes around the island to Kalalau, and a fe miles in there s a waterfall you can stop and swim at. There s also Cold pond just before Ke e beach, with some of the cleanest water in the world. Like the other lady said, if you have open wounds of any kind don t go in, be very careful and don t go in. Go to the beach instead ^.^ Salt water is supposed to be good or small wounds. anything big and go to the doctor instead. I dunno what Dee is talking about, I swim in fresh water pools all the damn time, my family swims in them, my daughter swims in them, they aren t diseased. There is a strain of leptospirosis in the water, yes, but it s only a danger if you swim with open wounds. All the places I recommended to you are fine, I swim in them regularly. In fact, my perfect day includes swimming at Lumahai beach, rinsing off in Cold pond, and getting Subway in Hanalei. I ve been swimming in fresh water streams, pools, and resevoirs since I was born, it s FINE. They couldn t commercially take you to a waterfall to swim if it was dangerous. AND I ve drank the water(by accident of course). Some of the freshest water you ll find in the world. I went up to Koke e the other day, pulled over on the side of the road and drank some water from a side stream. I don t recommend you do it because you re not too familiar with the area, but it won t kill you. I m sure you re smart enough to know the difference between stagnant water and flowing water.

Never swim in FRESH waterfall pools in Hawaii. Leptospirosis is an infectious disease, in the stagnent waters from waterfalls, fresh streams, lakes, marshes.

If you are sure that you have no breaks in your skin, you could consider taking a chance on swimming in a swimming hole. But if you have any cuts or scrapes, no matter how small, I would strongly advise against it. You can get leptospirosis, which can make you very ill. Rarely, people die from it. It is from the wastes from wild pigs that get into the streams, as the other woman said. If you are wanting to take the chance, here are a few suggestions: Manoa Falls, Jackass Ginger trail in Nuuanu, or Maunawili Falls in Kailua. I have done the hikes, but have never felt confident about swimming in the water. I would not recommend it.

I stayed at a hotel in Vegas and they put a hold on my card for 400.00. I charged about 75 to the room and at check out confirmed the charges. So, how long before the hotel will charge my 75 and release the remaining 325?

Most banks will only allow 3 to 5 days on a hold on a debit card. Credit cards have a longer hold period. There is no set time for when they do the actual charge. However I am sure they want their money and will put it through as soon a possible.

Debit card is about 5 days as they actually have to debit the money form your account and refund yuou as they can not ring fence the money on a debit card. Credit card is instant as they have not actually taken any money just ringfenced it so there is nothing to refund.

It really depends on your bank. The usual is 7-10 days from day of check out, however, ask your bank how long it takes them to deal with credit vs. debit transactions and you will get your answer.

Honestly, the 10 and 5 year olds would love anything you can think of to do in Florida. The 1 year old is too young to enjoy a lot of Disney and the associated whirlwind of activity. You can rent a condo or a private house with a pool in Orlando or close for a reasonable amount. That will save you some bucks, you can plan to eat breakfast and dinner at home. The trade-off is getting back and forth to the parks. Disney often runs a special, usually in September, to get free meals with your park tickets and hotel stay on property. That plan was going to cost our family of 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) about $2800 for this September. That was for 2 rooms at the Pop Century resort. As it happens, our grand children decided they wanted to go to Washington DC instead. So we aren t doing Disney this year after all. Other parts of Florida have things to offer if you aren t planning to do theme parks every day. If you ve never been to Florida, I will warn you that it is hot, sticky, buggy, and miserable from June through mid-September.

All depends on certain factors. Are you going to get your own car, rent a car or depend on hotel transportation? This question is important because can determine how far from the parks area you can stay. You may find cheaper hotels closer to the airport. (check the hotels at Conway road that is next to the airport). I stayed in one a couple years ago for about $40 the night, clean and very nice hotel (including swiming pool). To go to the parks you can get one of the offers from the timesharing resorts. You can get your tickets very cheap, specially if you go by the small booths that you may see in several Orlando roads. If you are a little persistent and avoid the big stores to get the tickets you can get them preety cheap (I had got them in the past for about $20 each, they are costing like $70), the only problem you have to go to a presentation (breakfast included) of the timesharing facility and they are going to try to sell it to you. If you do not want it just be firm and say it at the END of the presentation, you get your tickets even if you do not buy. Go early in the morning because you want to be on the parks early. Also is important to consider how long you are going to stay in Orlando. If is a week you can stay in a hotel, there are also apartment complex that rent apartments fully equiped by the week and if you look close to Semoran avenue (you need a car) you can get them a lot cheaper than most hotels.

We liked California, Colorado, Arizona, The Grand Canyon - Las Vegas areas. Beyond the Hoover Dam, as you drive beyond, is the area of those Red Rocks, Nice place. Quaint towns. Nothing to do, but idle walks . I forget all those names. All up in the mountains. That is Sedona. I found some links. And she can always blow up your money in Las Vegas. It is SO addictive.

The beaches in Florida are beautiful, Key West or Tampa side. What about a trip to the Grand Canyon? June is also a beautiful time to visit the beaches in the Northwest. I m planning a trip this summer along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Is there any park or attraction or town that I should be sure to visit? Is there anything quot;off the beaten trackquot; that I should be aware of?

Stop anywhere in the Great Smoky Mountains NP, the views are spectacular. There are places you can picnic and watch elk feeding. Have fun!!!

We ve driven the BRP from end to end, but never in a single trip. It s an amazing road with an amazing story. We ve enjoyed every interpretive site along the way. At the southern end, you re high in the Smokey Mountains and the scenery is breathtaking. As you travel north, and to lower elevations, you find many opportunities to explore the lives of those who lived here over the past 2 1/2 centuries. And, short distances off the Parkway are Civil War battlefields which will give you insight into the greatest American tragedy. I really can t pick out anything. Just, go slowly and don t push yourself. When you see a spot to pull over, stop. Look around. Take the short hikes. At night, either camp on the Parkway, or stop in a small town at a Bed and Breakfast. When you see something that looks interesting off the roadway, get off, explore to your heart s content and come back to the Parkway when you re ready. I really think this is one of those places which you want to explore for yourself, and not pay any attention to the places people tell you are quot;don t missquot;. Your exploration will be your own and nobody else s.

My grandfather is interested in spending Thanksgiving in Hawaii this year. Does anyone know what the weather is like in late November?

The weather is perfect! My husband and I spent Thanksgiving in Hawaii a few years ago and it was wonderful. The high temps were in the mid 80 s. Many restaurants book up for Thanksgiving dinner. So if you do decide to go, make dinner reservation in advance. We had a little trouble in this area, because we didn t realize we needed to book ahead.

It s a little known fact that Thanksgiving in Hawaii is a very dangerous time of year. Few people know that the majority of the worlds thanksgiving turkeys come from the big islands when armies of Hawaiian soldiers are called to order and using there scuba gear and Hawaiian slings shoot 10 s of thousands of the ignorant fowl from the sky. The draw back is a heavy bird like that can fall a great distance away from the shooting site and thousands end up in the volcanoes causing huge eruptions of all the major volcano s within the vicinity. Mass eruptions fill the sky with the most poisonous gas of sulfur and the stench of burning birds and feathers. It s a nasty, dangerous event and I would stay away if I were you.

My friends and I are planning a road trip through 14 ghost towns all around Nevada and Utah for August. Would this be dangerous?

I have visited a large number of ghost towns in Arizona and New Mexico, as well as quite a few in southern Nevada and Utah. Generally speaking, there is usually nobody there other than perhaps other day visitors interested in the ghost town themselves (at the more popular ones). Many so-called ghost towns actually still have a few people living in them (which helps keep away criminals and vandals) and a lot of the better preserved ones (such as Rhyolite and Berlin in Nevada) are protected as parks with interpretive signs, etc. I have probably visited close to a 100 southwest ghost towns over the last 20 years and have never had any serious problems and only a few times ran into suspicious looking characters at a site (such as squatters living in one of the buildings or target shooters being a little less than careful). I would say that your risk of danger from other humans is pretty small if there is a group of you and you take some common-sense measures (ie: just turn around and leave if something or somebody does not look right). I would be somewhat more hesitant if you were traveling alone (especially if you are not familiar with the area). The ones that you need to perhaps be a little bit more careful at are not so much the remote ones, but rather the ones that are fairly close or easy to reach from a good sized community or major road (and are not protected by a park or caretaker, etc). These are often the ones that get used as party spots by local teens, spray-painted by vandals or used as target practice by shooters. In fact, these are the sites where you are somewhat more likely to encounter people in general. But even at these, the odds of any sort of bad incident are pretty low and you are probably quite a bit safer than walking down the street in many big cities. A perhaps bigger concern that you do need to be prepared for is traveling down rough and less maintained roads. Make sure your vehicle is in good running order and appropriate for the roads, have detailed maps and instructions and carry plenty of extra water and food in the car. Nevada in particular has some big stretches of desolate empty backcountry roads where you would not want to have a break down. Also make sure you know the ownership of the sites you are visiting (public land or private property). The website www.ghosttowns.com gives a pretty extensive listing of ghost towns and historic sites by state (although the quality and accurracy varies quite a bit from one entry to another). The series of Atlas/Gazetteers published by DeLorme for each state provide a good high-level guide to roads and land ownership. For the more remote sites, it is not a bad idea to have a GPS and/or USGS topographical maps (or Forest Service maps where available).

Of course not, and if your goal is to go to a lot of ghost towns, then obviously youre not worried about it. Just remember to bring the necesities (cell phones, flashlights, shotguns?)

There are several along the Tamiami trail (US 41) about 40 miles from downtown Miami. The first one you come to is the largest, but I would recommend any one of several offered by the Miccosukee Indians a bit further on. Alternately, you can go to Billy s Swamp Safari on the Seminole Indian reservation off Alligator Alley (I-75) about 50 miles west of Ft. Lauderdale. There is also one on the way to the main entrance of Everglades National Park, off Rt 9336 in Florida City. Hope this helps.

I m planning on going up there this month for the festival. What is it like?

San Francisco is a pretty open and tolerant city so gay pride is quite high. After all, San Francisco does allow gays to marry unlike many other places in the rest of the country. The festival attracts a lot of people so it will be very large, and very lively. It will be bustling with excitement. There s gonna be a parade, but some people might go a little crazy. I m sure you ll have a great time there.
